001: A Propensity for Propensities

Posted on October 12, 2005 Comments

During the ushering-in of such a magnanimous era, such as the one Theo and I are ushering with the introduction of this web comic, it behooves me to say something inspiring, thoughtful, or downright awesome. Forget that that is, in fact, my job concerning this comic. A la Tycho I am here to bring the verbal awesomeage to your eyeballs. Forget too my normal propensity for inspiring dialogue, my knack for thoughtfulness, and my clever, fox-like intellect. The fact is, at this point, I’m busting my ass trying to get this website to look more like a proper web comic and less like every other blog out there. And hey, you can’t tell, really, but I’ve made some serious progress in that regard, just today. My mind being thus employed with visions of style sheets, cascading, I will sum up this monumental event with these few words:

We’re here to show you the awesome.

Thank you, good night.

Who are those guys, and why are they crouched under that table singing pirate shanties?

Theo Porter, artist for La Casa Comics. His name is Theo Porter, and he’s a Zen comic master. It all started before he was born. He would absorb the Sunday Funnies through the umbilical cord and feed on their zaniness. When Theo was finally breathing on his own, the Man was instantly on his back. He was raised on a steady diet of India ink and eraser shavings which cultivated his connection with the tools of the trade. At an early age Theo was then sent to study with the Sebbohdnanivlac tribe, located in central Wisconsin, where he learned the great art of drawing snowmen. Upon his return to native lands, he took up his own pencil, testily proclaiming to the world, “I draw, therefore…yeah!” Theo currently lives in a state of bliss and constant meditation on the divine.

Ahniwa Ferrari, writer for La Casa ComicsCast to sea as an infant, Ahniwa Ferrari was raised by ninja-pirates on the good ship “Sea Shank”. He’s got rapier wit, if not an actual rapier, and a proclivity for pomegranates. He works in a university library, where he serves up referencey goodness to students and faculty, and frightens the occassional muggle. He’s a literature nerd, a computer geek, and a video game dork, a cynic and an optimist, a dreamer and a realist, a logician who values emotion. He speaks French and has a particular fondness for chow mein. He is compelled to understand. He writes because it keeps the flying crocodiles at bay, who are always trying to eat his monkeys.

A G&T and a vodka martini on a bench table outside The Mark in Olympia, WATogether, Theo and Ahniwa form the unholy team responsible for the mess they like to call “La Casa Comics”. When not comicking, they can often be found drowning their sorrows in booze, getting stone-drunk, and wondering why they haven’t been “discovered” yet.
